Spice Popcorn Projector M9000 | Price, Features,

Spice has come up with a new kind of phone – one that is capable of projecting images from it to a flat surface elsewhere, freeing you of the task to tote around another projector in the process. We would say that inventions like this are more novel than practical, since it is going to do a number on your battery life, and you can’t really project anything that is high resolution due to hardware limitations. Still, let us not sideline the Popcorn Projector M-9000 phone since this is one of their initial efforts, so all encouragement should be given.

We do know that this handset is capable of displaying large images from a short distance, and throwing images isn’t the only thing which it is capable of. The handset will also come with various features including an FM radio, a TV antenna for your mobile TV needs (subject to area and reception, we presume), and a document viewer – enough to peruse through some work documents, but definitely unable to modify that Word doc or Excel spreadsheet.

The phone will also come equipped with a 2.4” QVGA display and a 3.2-megapixel digital camera, where you can view streaming content or display content that is saved on a T-flash memory card. The card slot itself is able to handle capacities of up to 16GB, and it does seem as though the phone will arrive in India first for RS 6999 (that is roughly $155 in American dollars) with no mention of a Stateside rollout.

Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 Concept Phone; The First Outcome Of The Giant Collaboration

In case there is any doubt, Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop insists that Windows Phone 7 handsets are being developed at this very moment. However, release date has been pushed back to 2012.

Talking amid rumors that Microsoft and Nokia might actually be into acquisition talks, CEO Stephen Elop dismissed these claims, saying that production of a new Windows-based phone would be impossible in such a scenario. Instead, Windows Phone 7 handsets are currently in development, and the company plans to finish development within the year.

Elop clarified that the partnership agreement with Microsoft is still being ironed out at this point, which is expected to be finalized in a few months. For now, Nokia plans to get with the program, and focus on delivering its promise of a WP7 phone by year end. It still has to focus on the low-end spectrum of the mobile market, which is targeted at emerging markets, and comprises about 50% of Nokia’s business.

Again, Nokia’s CEO confirms they are building a WP7 phone, and that these will be out by 2012.

The iPod Touch has owned the personal media player market since its introduction in 2007, and with Microsoft allegedly yanking the Zune from the market, it’s time for the new kid in town to challenge Apple’s media player. We have high hopes for the Samsung Galaxy Players, which we found out yesterday will finally be coming to the US. They have all the makings of a good iOS rival: running Android, built by a respectable company, and an existing following for the Galaxy branding.

Bear in mind, Samsung hasn’t released full details of the device quite yet (including one very important one: pricing), but we’ve taken it upon ourself to draw up some initial impressions of how the two media players will compare.

Nokia E6-00 leaked – the first unofficial images

The images  and specs of the unannounced Nokia E6-00 have been leaked. It appears to be an updated version of the Nokia E71. The E6-00′s launch at the Mobile World Congress 2011 is set to overshadow a number of other Nokia launches, including the X7-00 and the N9.

From the little information that could be extracted at that moment I could only conclude that we are dealing with an 8 MP camera  with dual LED flash, front-facing videocall camera and runs Symbian^3.  The first unofficial image with Nokia E6-00 are not as we expected the phone to be. Instead of a generously sized touch screen we have a smaller version, which leaves room for a QWERTY-style keyboard found on the E71 and E72 models. It’s hard to say if the resolution is really the VGA previously announced, but the screen size and format does not exclude this possibility.

Look out Apple iPad, here comes Iris by Asus

Apple figured out a long time ago that they could make a single gadget that supposedly does everything with the iPhone and the iPad. Asus takes that idea and gives it a quantum leap forward with the Isis.

The Isis depends on a lot of technology that either needs to be seriously improved or hasn’t been invented yet. Clearly, it believes that holography is just going to get better and better as this thing can project a sky on your ceiling with twittering birds to wake you up.

Of course, holographic tech will probably be like that in a few, I don’t know, decades? The tech that I found most fascinating is the Isis is able to somehow grow and shrink by simply stretching it. This technology can make the Isis become a watch, phone, e-reader, or PC screen all-in-one. Watch the video of this that was displayed by ElectricPig at CeBIT.

I don’t know if we are looking at the near or far future when we would see an Iris kit with all the accessories like the alarm clock stand and wristband. I’m sure it would cost quite a lot, at first.

Apple, are you listening? Asus is trying to do some serious moving in on your “app for everything” business model. Seriously, this could turn Steve Jobs into Steve Jobless.

Samsung Galaxy Indulge joins the 4G LTE family

Samsung intends to expand their Galaxy (range of phones, that is) with the latest addition, the Samsung Galaxy Indulge. It is rather interesting to note that this latest release will not arrive on any of the big four carriers, but rather, will be made available to MetroPCS, one of the smaller players over in the US. Still, that doesn’t detract from the fact that the Galaxy Indulge is one of the world’s first commercially available 4G LTE enabled Android smartphone.

MetroPCS’ main selling point that will accompany the Galaxy Indulge is this – it costs around half that of other 4G smartphone where service plans are concerned, as consumers are able to “have it all”, so to speak, with MetroPCS’ $50 and $60 4G LTE smartphone service plans, where it will comprise of all applicable taxes and regulatory fees.

If you happen to talk a whole lot, text as well as browse the Internet on your smartphone, enjoy streaming audio, video and gaming content, downloads and Android applications, then this does sound like the perfect plan for you – although we’re not too sure whether the coverage of MetroPCS is going to jive with you or not.

Running on the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, the Galaxy Indulge is touted to be the perfect smartphone for folks who want to manage every aspect of their lives from a mobile device. MetroPCS’ 4G LTE service is more than capable of delivering the latest exclusive entertainment and multimedia content from their favorite shows through the MetroSTUDIO application.

With more than 100,000 apps to choose from from the Android Market, you’re spoilt for choice. Of course, it goes without saying that Samsung has skinned the Galaxy Indulge with their very own TouchWiz enhancements to make navigation around the device’s home screens a whole lot easier compared to the vanilla Android user interface. In addition, the combination of touch screen/QWERTY keyboard lets you choose which mode you’re more comfortable with – I personally prefer the latter, of course.

Other hardware specifications include a 1GHz processor, access to Google Mobile services, a 3 megapixel camera and camcorder with auto-focus, music player, Stereo Bluetooth connectivity and a microSD memory card slot. Expect it to hit MetroPCS stores later this week for $399.

Both $50 and $60 plans will include all applicable taxes and regulatory fees, not to mention MetroPCS’ unmatched value with unlimited talk, text and 4GLTE Web page browsing.

Feel free too to enjoy unlimited data access (this is also pretty subjective, there is usually a cap before they throttle your line) to streaming audio, video and gaming content, downloads and Android applications on the Galaxy Indulge. If you were looking for a new smartphone that is supposedly blazing fast, tearing up the performance charts, the Galaxy Indulge might be worth a peek.

Colorado’s TIP411 – sk8r with 420 @ park

Colorado Springs police unveiled a new, high-tech way to report crime, named TIP411, the new system allows people to send crime tips anonymously via text message. But, police warn, it shouldn’t be used in emergencies. So, if you’re in big trouble, make sure to call it in, TIP411 is more for like, well, snitching.

When you use TIP411, you are assigned a generic number as it’s received by the police department so police can respond back via the text message system without ever identifying the tipster.

The police department hopes that citizens that don’t feel comfortable calling in a crime tip may be more willing to send a short descriptive tip that will help them solve crimes in Colorado Springs, and also that once a citizen submits an anonymous tip via text or e-mail there will be no further obligation on their part if they so desire.

So if you live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and you’d like to submit a crime tip via your phone, text “CSPD” to 847411, or TIP411, followed by any information you may have.

The first is that the Galaxy S 4G (pictured right) is coming to the carrier this month. It is a sequel to the Vibrant, but with the largest 4G network (21 mbps HSPA+) with Android 2.2 (Froyo).

The second announcement has to deal with the coming of the G-Slate. It’s not like it wasn’t announced at CES 2011, but it definitely will have Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) as well as built-in support for 3D graphics, allowing for 3D video and experience 3D content on the device, with 3D glasses. The Galaxy S 4G for T-Mobile allows for streaming on a mobile HD TV, Video chat with Qik, and pre-loaded with the film Inception.

I have already discussed the G-Slate’s 3-D capability which apparently is the big selling point. To let you know, it has an 8.9 inch screen (1280 x 720), an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, HDMI port, rear camera with five Megapixels, 32GB internal storage, as well as the 4G connectivity of the aforementioned Galaxy S.

Samsung Galaxy Tab has pretty high return rates

Isn’t it a wonder what good marketing can do for you? That is what’s happening with the Samsung Galaxy Tab after the real story breaks cover, where the return rates of this Android-powered tablet device is far higher than that of its main rival, the Apple iPad. We’re talking about a Wall Street firm estimating that around 15% of the Galaxy Tabs sold are actually returned, which is nearly 700% higher than what the iPad is looking at (2%).

Of course, this 15% rate comprises of sales from the tablet’s debut since November through January 16 this year. The culprit behind the high return rates? It could be because Samsung decided to go ahead with Android 2.2 while rushing the Tab out to the market for first mover advantage, despite Google already stating that Android 2.2 Froyo is unsuitable for tablet use, where Android 3.0 Honeycomb is a whole lot better since it was specially optimized for such use.

Hopefully with the advent of Honeycomb-powered tablets, the return rate of future Tabs won’t be that high, and the whole ordeal will be forgotten soon. Guess all those record breaking feats (2 million sold milestone) do not mean that much anymore, while the recent price drop might just lure more people to end up under the “return” pile. Update: Apparently, all of this is a miscommunication, and the Galaxy Tab has fared much better than reported. We apologized for riling the feathers of Samsung fans, and Samsung says that the Galaxy Tab has a return rate of only 2%.
